Beth’s June Top Artists
Happy My Birth Month B&B readers! I’ve got some fun stuff coming up for you this month, but for now, here’s my June music favorites!
10. Alanis Morissette
Song of the Month: Hand in My Pocket
Happy freaking Summer, one hand is in my pocket and the other is giving out high fives, truly. Everything is gonna be quite alright! Or at least that’s what I’m telling myself. I keep seeing people asking, “Who is listening to Alanis Morissette in 2025?” in festival lineup comment sections, and the answer is- ME! I am listening to Alanis Morissette in 2025, and you should be too. The nostalgia of listening to her on a sunny walk around Chicago, nothing better.
9. FKA twigs
Song of the Month: oh my love
Okay, here’s the deal– I had to ignore my Receiptify rankings for this one because there is just no way FKA twigs has never been on this list. Ever since my original Chicago roommate, Adam, introduced me a few years ago, FKA twigs has been all over my playlists. Every time I’ve put Beyoncé’s Renaissance album on, and it’s gone through the whole album, Spotify immediately plays FKA Twigs next. So, it genuinely baffles me that she’s never made an appearance here, especially in June. If you’re in need of a song to white girl dance in your room to, give oh my love a listen.
8. Clairo
Song of the Month: Juna
Clairo, specifically her song Juna, in the summertime, just hits. Clairo’s music has an undeniable effect on me. Somehow, it waters my inner child and empowers my womanhood at the same time. I’m walking around giddy as ever, thinking about my man, and skipping if no one’s around to see. Juna just makes me feel so dainty and light, like I could just float away with the wish of a dandelion.
7. Doechii
Song of the Month: Alter Ego
With all the times I’ve talked about Doechii, it is truly dumbfounding that I have never addressed my obsession with her song Alter Ego. (Obsession courtesy of my little, Danielle). Just a few weekends ago, I went out with my friends in Boystwon and heard this song in a bar for the first time. Scarlet, you’ll forever be famous to me. Hearing this song out with my friends ignited something truly sinister in me. I would like to formally apologize to anyone who was within a 50-foot radius of me at that time. I have no idea who that woman was; I have never met her before.
6. Sza
Song of the Month: Garden (Say It Like Dat)
I think I’ve written about it before, but I just can’t help but listen to Sza when I’m on the train. There is just something about bumping Ctrl or Z sitting in a window seat. Of course, I’m mentally pretending I’m in a music video. I love this song because it feels so true to the struggle of trusting someone with your heart and believing what they say at face value. “Hoping I’ll never find out that you’re anyone else, ‘cause I love you just how you are, and I hope you’ll never find out who I really am, ‘cause you’ll never love me…But I believe you when you say it like that.” They’re such “simple” lyrics, but I think it tells a story so many people, especially women, can relate to. It can be so hard to show someone who you truly are, even when you’ve already accepted them for who they truly are. It’s obvious that Sza has felt that struggle too, and I love how her music can serve as a catalyst to validate and empower the feelings of others.
5. Shania Twain
Song of the Month: Forever and For Always
I am on my third Shania Twain Summer now, and it feels so good. There are very few things better than a rom-com playlist on the porch in the Summer, I swear I accidentally manifested my man this way. Forever and For Always is without a doubt one of my favorite love songs of all time. I love how mushy gushy it is, while at the same time being light and bright, it is truly the perfect Summer love song. This song tastes like an Arnold Palmer, c’mon, take a sip!
4. Kaytranada
Song of the Month: Be Your Girl
Will we ever see a warm day when Kaytranada is not on this list? I’m thinking the answer is no. In past monthly top artists, I’ve focused a lot on Kaytranada’s newer music. However, I have been a fan for a long time, and I’d venture to guess that Be Your Girl was one of my first Kaytranada favorites. It might even be the song that put me on. This song is so flirty and fun, perfect for the Summer.
3. Solange
Song of the Month: Bad Girls - Verdine Version
Solange, my Cancer queen. How could I not celebrate the beginning of Cancer season with my favorite Cancer sister? I resonate so deeply with Solange’s music, and I have always wondered if it may be because we share a star sign; she is the epitome of a Cancer woman. She just gets it. It’s that garden party, after dark, moonlight kind of vibe. Very Cancerian if I do say so myself.
2. Sade
Song of the Month: No Ordinary Love
You already know from last month that I’m on a major Sade kick right now. That Sade kick goes hand in hand with my Solange kick, too. I love listening to them together because you can truly hear the influence Sade’s music has had on Solange’s. They truly make the best music to listen to under the moon. I love listening to 'No Ordinary Love' in my front yard late at night, when no one else is on my street, enjoying the subtle noise of the city that complements her sultry voice.
1. Beyoncé
Song of the Month: Alien Superstar
This June was the go one day without listening to Alien Superstar challenge level impossible, and I undoubtedly failed. This song flips a switch in my brain, and immediately my bad bitch mode is activated. As a matter of fact, I am the bar, Alien Superstar. I am performing fully choreographed routines in the shower to this song while my hair mask sets in. I just can’t help myself. If I am ever on RuPaul’s Drag Race for a fan makeover episode, I pray to Michelle Visage that they allow me a moment to lip sync for my life to this song.
Well, that’s all from me…for now!
Write you soon!
